clay foundation graduation

Of all the activities and events leading up to March 5, 2010, nothing can compare to the pride we all felt as we watched our first graduation ceremony.

Our students have accomplished goals beyond our expectations.

We'd like to share some of their achievements with you in this newsletter.

November 2009: Our First Graduating Class
It is hard to believe we are getting ready for our first group of students to graduate in November of 2009. This a bittersweet time for us. These are the students who started this wonderful journey with us and they will always hold a special place in our hearts. They have gone through all of our mistakes with us and have come out with no scars! We had high expectations of these students and they rose to the challenge. Our hope and prayer for these wonderful young adults is they will take what they have learned at Clay International Secondary School and continue to grow both personally and professionally.

August 2009: Students Excel In Math Competition
Representatives of our senior class participated in a countrywide mathematics competition. The students won the competition at the local and district level. At the provincial level they came in second. In the final competition, where the top two schools in each province competed for the national title in Nairobi, our Clay International students placed 17th!!! Quite amazing for our first class of seniors!

February 2009: We Have Water!
As of February we have been pumping water from our second well into a 75,000 liter storage tank located in the village. From the storage tank we have gravitational flow to the irrigation system in our gardens. At the end of May we planted onions and kale. When the crop is harvested the yield will help feed our students and some of it will be sold. Thanks goes to so many for the success of this project!
